Dr. Barbara Curry, President
Dr. Barbara Curry has been involved as a parent with the BYOC since its inception in 2006, and has been a member of the BYOC Board since September of 2012. Dr. Curry is a physician who works at the Billings Clinic, and she is an avid classical music enthusiast. She has witnessed the positive impact of the BYOC on young musicians in the Billings community, and joined the Board in 2012 as a way of giving back to the organization. She looks forward to participating in the continued growth and outreach of the orchestra and chorale.
Michelle Wayman, Treasurer
Michelle was born and raised in Minnesota. In 2010 Michelle and her husband, Richard, moved to Billings Montana. She has two girls, Kayla and Alison, who both play in the BYOC. Michelle has been involved as a BYOC parent for the past three years in both the Preludio and the Concert groups. She is currently a student at MSU-B pursuing a degree in Accounting
Stacey Casterline, Secretary
Stacey was born and raised in Duluth, MN where she began playing viola at her public school in the 5th grade and went on to play for the Duluth-Superior Youth Orchestra all through high school. She attended college in Seattle and played for a local community orchestra as well as her church orchestra. She has a Master’s degree in education and currently works as the academic coordinator for a local non profit agency in addition to being the children’s ministries pastor at Freedom Church. Stacey has taught private lessons, both violin and viola, for over 15 years and is currently teaching her 10 year old daughter, who began playing violin in Preludios in 2013. Stacey also serves as a mentor in the youth orchestra and is excited about the level of excellence in our Billings music community!
Jodi is a ranch girl from the mountains of Colorado. She grew up playing saxophone and singing in her dad’s machine shed. She has always been successful in her music and enjoys singing with high level choirs, performing in wind ensembles, and loves being part of a good big band. She received her bachelors and masters degrees from Colorado State in Fort Collins in music education and choral conducting. When she first moved to the Billings area in 2012 with her husband, she performed at BST as the role of Fantine in Les Miserables, which put her on the map as far as building her private studio. She has taught K-12 music. She is also a licensed massage therapist at Yellowstone Naturopathic Clinic and the choir director at Grace United Methodist. Her hobbies include fly fishing, camping, watching football, and fostering animals in her spare time. Jodi brings great enthusiasm to our board of directors.
Janny is one of the founding members of the Billings Youth Orchestra and Chorale. She is also co-owner with her husband, John Kirk of Kirk Violins/Kirk House of Music. Her expertise is in the area of Celtic fiddling and leads the Billings Ceilidh Fiddlers. She grew up taking private lessons beginning at the age of 6 years old in both piano and violin and her father was a professional musician and music teacher. So music has always been part of her life from the beginning. Janny taught for 13 years in various areas of Special Education along with playing in local orchestras. Her passion for educating kids and playing music is a great match for the Billings Youth Orchestra and Chorale.
John is a Billings native who went off to explore the world after completing his Master’s Degree in Cello Performance at Boston University. He also studied with famous composer/teacher Nadia Boulanger while living in Paris. John is a luthier by trade and has completed over 1,000 stringed instruments –violins, violas and cellos throughout his career. He has made instruments by hand along with building and designing a CNC process for making stringed instruments. He is the only U.S. maker that owns a CNC router devoted to making stringed instruments of the violin family. Along with being a founding member of the Billings Youth Orchestra and Chorale, he is also a co-founder of the Classic for Kids Foundation which gifts instruments to students all over the U.S. He also is passionate about education and music and has a private studio of cello students which includes Janny’s and his son, David Kirk, who is attending MSU Bozeman in Mechanical Engineering.
Amanda Kleinhans Amanda Kleinhans was born in Virginia and raised in several states due to military stationing. In 2006 Amanda and her husband, Joseph, moved from the greater Detroit area to Laurel, Montana with their small family. She has two children, Melody and JJ, that are both involved in music. Amanda has been a BYOC parent for the past three years in the Preludio and Concert groups. She currently owns and operates MicroBooks, a bookkeeping and tax service.
Carol Lustig* Carol Lustig was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her love of music began in 4th grade when she started learning to play violin. After earning a BA in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, she began teaching elementary school in southwest Wisconsin. She and her husband moved to Billings in 1975. They have 4 children and 13 grandchildren. Carol recently retired from her 31-year teaching career and is now teaching private violin lessons, as well as enjoying playing in several groups.
